About Me
I came to Georgia from Florida, joining the outstanding faculty and staff here at Fayette County High School School. I am now beginning my 16th year of teaching.
My educational degrees include a Master of Arts Degree in Reading and a B.A. Degree in Education from the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida. I am continuously seeking professional development to challenge and empower my students to be competent and competitive in our rapidly changing world.
I have certifications to teach Secondary Reading K through 12, Middle School Science, Social Studies, Reading and Language Arts from the Professional Standards Commission of Georgia, as well as Early Childhood K through 5. I am also Gifted Certified.
I raised my own four wonderful children, who are now all successful adults - I am very proud of their individual accomplishments. I have one daughter, a neo-natal intensive care nurse in Gainesville Florida, and have three sons - one, a corporate manager, living in Dallas, Texas with his young family. My two younger sons are both making careers in the U.S. Marine Corps - one is back from Afghanistan, whose family lives in Charlotte, S.C., and another son and his wife who are stationed in San Diego, after returning home from Iraq.
Beyond family, my personal interests include travel, hiking, exploring State and National Parks, kayaking, and enjoying nature. I am an avid reader and enjoy learning new things. My husband and I recently moved from another county to be closer to this great school district. I consider myself a life-long learner and value the opportunities presented each day!
I previously taught in Florida for seven years, across the spectrum of elementary, middle school and college levels. I returned from a year of international travel with my husband on our 43' sailboat, then taught in Georgia at middle school levels for the past eight years. I am thrilled to be settled in here now at Fayette County High School!
I have a passion for learning and recognizing the individual strengths of my students, and am thrilled at the prospect of meeting my new students and watching their reading and communication skills develop this coming year.
I look forward to working together with you as parents and students, and know that with our combined efforts, all of us can make a successful team!
